M.O.R.E. HD Zink Coated Steering Box Mount
Description
The factory CJ steering box mount is stamped 1/8 inch steel. Under steering load it flexes. That flex happens before your input reaches the linkage, and you feel it as vagueness that no amount of linkage work will fix.
What most CJ owners do not realize is that the flex is also working against the frame. The steering box mounting location is a documented stress point on the CJ frame rail. Cracking in this area is common on older CJs, particularly on lifted examples running larger tires. The factory mount geometry concentrates steering forces at a narrow section of the frame, and four decades of use accelerates the problem.
The Mountain Off Road SB7686Z addresses the root cause. Built from 3/8 and 1/2 inch thick steel, it replaces the factory mount and locks the steering box solidly to the frame, eliminating the flex that transfers stress into the frame rail. It does not repair existing cracks, but it significantly reduces the ongoing stress that causes them. If your frame already shows cracking at this location, weld and plate the frame first, then install this mount.
Sourced and crafted in Colorado. Includes all mounting hardware. Works with stock steering setup and shackle reversal systems. Zinc plated finish for corrosion resistance.
Fits 1976 to 1986 Jeep CJ5, CJ7, and CJ8 Scrambler.
